Dawson County -&nbsp;The Dawson County Sheriff's Office was recently awarded a grant through the AAA Auto Club Group Foundation for the purchase of 16 Guardian Angel shoulder lights.  These lights have multiple options for its use and will help make Deputies more visible when necessary.&nbsp;

Lincoln County Board of Commissioners special meeting today at 2 pm

Haigler, Neb. - On Monday,  August 12, 2024, The Dundy County Sheriff's Office served 2 search warrants simultaneously at 2 residences on Porter Avenue in Haigler, Nebraska. 

Approximately 50 Fentanyl pills, 2 ounces of Methamphetamine, 20 other pills of controlled substance, 3 grams of D.M.T.,  2 grams of psylocibin mushrooms, 1/2 pound of Marijuana, THC Wax, an AR-15 Rifle, 2 22. caliber long rifle's, $5,000 in cash and a large amount of drug paraphernalia were located between the 2 residences. 

The persons who live in those residences were not at home at the time the search warrants were served and affidavits for their arrests will be filed with the County Attorney for prosecution. 

Assisting the Dundy County Sheriff's Office with this were members of the Nebraska State Patrol CODE Drug Task Force, Imperial Police Department, Red Willow County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska Brand committee and Benkelman EMS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

(North Platte, Nebraska, August 12, 2024) – Get ready to have a smashing good time because the National Avocado Launching Championship is coming back to North Platte for its third year on Saturday, September 14th, 2024. This year the unique competition will be held at Pals Brewing Company and is also in correlation with the Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival.&nbsp;

Teams of up to three will compete to score the most points by launching avocados at targets using catapults, trebuchets, slingshots, water balloon launchers — basically, any launcher that is human-powered. No air guns, potato guns, flames, laser beams, or booster rockets. And no matter how much you want to show off your bulging muscles, throwing by hand is not allowed.&nbsp;

This is a competition of precision starting with pool play and then transitioning to a single elimination bracket. Teams will be launching the avocados at upside down cattle tanks with point values written on the bottoms. The purpose is to accumulate points. Prize money will be awarded to the final four teams with first place receiving $3,500, second place taking home $2,000, and the other top two teams winning $750 each. The competition is capped at 60 teams. On Friday, September 13th an optional practice event will be held at Pals Brewing Company, giving teams a chance to hone their devices at the actual competition site. Teams must RSVP in advance for the practice event to insure they have a time slot reserved. Then, on Saturday, September 14th teams will be required to attend a pre-launch meeting and mechanism inspection on competition day with check in running from 8:30am-9:30am. Then, the competition will kick off and avocados will fly starting at 10:20am.&nbsp;

Teams that register for the National Avocado Launching Championship will be offered half price general admission tickets to the Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival.&nbsp;

Spectators of the National Avocado Launching Championship are welcome free of charge.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As part of the tour, the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.uprrmuseum.org/uprrm/">Union Pacific Railroad Museum</a>&nbsp;will be auctioning off four cab rides on Big Boy No. 4014, with proceeds going to two worthy causes: the Union Pacific Museum Association and Union Pacific’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.up.com/up/employee/upec/friends/index.htm">Friend to Friend Network</a>, a nonprofit that benefits railroad families in times of need, such as medical or natural disaster hardships. Long Pine Creek Bridge Reopened

Paxton, Neb. - Two people were injured in an accident on I-80 near Paxton that shut down the westbound lanes for a few hours Monday morning according to officials.&nbsp;

According to the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), the accident occurred around 5:40 am around mile marker 151, just a few miles east of Paxton.&nbsp;

NSP states the accident involved multiple semi-trucks. Two people suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. I-80 westbound from Sutherland to Paxton would reopen around 9:30am. During the closure, traffic was diverted to U.S. Highway 30.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The crash remains under investigation.&nbsp;

Double Q Country Sports Director and "voice of the CSC Eagles" Dave Collins received the Gold Award in the "Best Sports Play-By-Play" category.&nbsp; Collins, who has won several NBA awards for his sports broadcasting efforts, travels with Chadron State Eagle teams throughout the year to bring games to radio listeners all over Nebraska.&nbsp; Collins met his wife Shaunda in Chadron where she is a Full Professor in the Communications Department at CSC. They enjoy spending time with their infant son Braylon, traveling all over the country, running half-marathon races and attending games together in new stadiums.

Also receiving a gold award Wednesday night (his 10th NBA award overall) was Eagle Radio Alliance/Chadron Director Of Creative Services Jason Wentworth.&nbsp; "Wenty " took home the Gold for "Best Promotional Announcement."&nbsp; Joining Wentworth in the production of the winning "Jingle Cash promo" was Kalin Krohe; the two have been creative partners for years.&nbsp; "Kalin brings his sense of humor, vocal variety and improvisational skill to all of our commercial projects.&nbsp; I couldn't do it without him!"&nbsp; Wentworth, who has been at KCOW for 26 years, celebrates 2024 as the 25th anniversary of his KCOW morning show.

Last, but not least, North Platte Marketing Consultant Carla Beck received a Bronze award in the highly competitive "Best Commercial" category.&nbsp; Her commercial for Axes and Aces was titled "The Big Game."

It should be noted that unlike some state broadcasting associations, where awards are split up among "small market", "medium market" and "large market" stations--assuring a greater likelihood of an entry winning--the Nebraska Broadcasters Association votes for all entries equally.&nbsp; This means the three winning entries above managed to defeat some of the largest, most powerful radio stations in Omaha, Lincoln, and other large city stations.&nbsp; &nbsp;

&nbsp; Sandhills Energy is thrilled to announce that eight of our community solar projects across Nebraska have been selected to receive nearly $30 million in loan funding through the USDA’s Powering Affordable Clean Energy (PACE) program. The Nebraska community solar projects selected are part of our ongoing collaboration with the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) to provide renewable energy to 16 municipalities across 15 sites in the Midwest.

PACE program funding, coordinated by USDA Rural Development’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS), includes a significant loan with a forgiveness component. Sandhills Energy secures nearly $30 Million in funding for Nebraska Community Solar Projects

Lincoln, NE - Marilyn Miller of&nbsp;Ansley&nbsp;is the fifth winner of a 2024 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew truck in the 29th edition of the Nebraska Lottery’s $2 Truck$ &amp; Buck$ Scratch game.

Miller purchased her winning Truck$ &amp; Buck$ ticket at Casey’s #2068 at 609 Plum Creek Parkway in Lexington. She was presented with her new truck at Casey's on Thursday, August 8 by Nebraska Lottery officials.

Miller said she and her husband Duane were heading home from an auction in Grand Island and decided to stop in Lexington for some supper. They decided to make a quick trip to Casey’s to fill up their vehicle and she popped inside to cash in a few winning Scratch tickets.

“I won $20,” she said. “And so I took that $20 and spent $10 of it on five Truck$ &amp; Buck$ tickets.”

One of those tickets ended up winning her the pickup. She called the Nebraska Lottery the next day and her truck was delivered to her in Lexington about a week later.

“I’m still speechless, I guess,” she said. “It’s just neat that I won.”

“That’s not even a once in a lifetime deal,” Duane added. “It’s probably once in ten lifetimes.”

&nbsp; Lincoln, Neb. —&nbsp;Nebraska Extension is hosting two drone conferences on Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Thursday, Aug. 15 at West Central Research, Extension and Education Center in North Platte, Nebraska.

The two-day event begins with the 2nd Annual Drones in Agriculture Conference on Aug. 14 and concludes with the 2nd Nebraska Spray Drone Conference on Aug. 15. Each conference includes presenters and exhibitors from Nebraska and across the world, who are experts and practitioners in the drone industry.

Two exceptional speakers will present the keynote address at each conference.

The Drones in Agriculture Conference will feature Jonathan Rupprecht, Esq. of Rupprecht Law, P.A. Rupprecht is a lawyer, commercial pilot and flight instructor who combines these experiences to help businesses and individuals navigate the complex system of laws for unmanned aircraft systems.

The Nebraska Spray Drone Conference will feature Dr. Steve Li, associate professor and extension specialist of weed science at Auburn University. His research team works on evaluating the application efficiency of spray drones and understanding how to optimize flight and spray parameters to mitigate spray drift.

In addition to these speakers, the conferences will feature presenters from Federal Aviation Administration, Nebraska Department of Agriculture, Nebraska Extension, Pix4D Agriculture, Lifted Vision, Aurora Cooperative, Agri Spray Drones, and Volitant Technologies. Spray drone demonstrations will be provided by Agri Spray Drones and Volitant Technologies.
