(Audio) Hershey Fall Festival kicks off today, runs through Saturday

<a>(North Platte, NEB.)&nbsp;&nbsp;</a>—&nbsp;&nbsp;Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Carrier Enforcement Division conducted local commercial vehicle inspections on Wednesday, August 21st, in North Platte, Nebraska.

During this effort, the Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team conducted 39 vehicle inspections. Troopers discovered 95 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law. Troopers placed 12 vehicles out of service (not allowed to return to the road). Additionally, troopers placed 3 drivers out of service.

Vehicles are placed out of service for a variety of reasons relating to bad brakes or tires, or other problems that pose immediate safety risks. Troopers issued a total of 11 citations during the inspections.

During the inspections, troopers also issued a total of 11 CVSA decals. The decals indicate that the vehicle did not have any immediate safety issues.

The effort focuses on commercial vehicles that may not pass-through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.

The MAPS Team is funded largely by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Troopers check for compliance with federal safety regulations and enforce laws pertaining to weight, size, registration, dyed fuels, and permits associated with commercial vehicles. The MAPS Team was implemented in 1998 and consists of troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division.

Olson is president of Olson Farms, Inc. of North Platte, which he owns and operates. He’s also one of the founders for Sustainable Beef, also in North Platte. Olson has served on the boards for Mid America Bio Energy, Nebraska International Port of the Plains and NEBRASKAland Days.&nbsp; &nbsp;

LINCOLN, NE&nbsp;–&nbsp;At the request of Governor Jim Pillen, a federal disaster declaration has been granted that will trigger the release of funds to assist multiple Nebraska counties impacted by a series of storms May 20 – June 3.

Counties eligible for funding include Burt, Butler, Colfax, Dodge, Douglas, Dundy, Fillmore, Hamilton, Hayes, Hitchcock, Howard, Keith, Platte, Polk, Red Willow, Saunders and Washington.&nbsp;For the timeframe indicated above, those counties sustained significant damage resulting from severe thunderstorms, high winds, tornadoes, heavy rain and flooding.

Lincoln County, which was included in a state disaster declaration, did not qualify for inclusion in the federal request, due to not meeting the threshold for federal aid.

LINCOLN —&nbsp;The Federal Aviation Administration awarded $18 million to 24 Nebraska airports this summer as part of a nationwide effort to enhance airfield safety and infrastructure.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s FAA awarded the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.faa.gov/airports/aip/2024_aip_grants/aip_a2.pdf" target="_blank">Airport Improvement Program</a>&nbsp;grants on June 28 and July 26 to Nebraska. Across four rounds of grants so far this fiscal year, the FAA has distributed&nbsp;<a href="https://www.faa.gov/airports/aip/2024_aip_grants" target="_blank">more than $1.13 billion</a>&nbsp;to 235 airports across 35 states and Washington, D.C., to improve runways, airfields, airport facilities, signage, lighting and markings.

The federal grant program includes approximately $3.3 billion in annual funding.

“These grants underline a national commitment to promoting safety, efficiency, environmental stewardship, infrastructure and security across America’s airports,” the Nebraska Department of Transportation said in a Monday news release.

The tests will look at nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate levels.

Drinking water quality is important for the health of you and your family. Many factors can change the condition of your well water. Events such as heavy rainfall, agricultural products like fertilizers and pesticides, or even the condition of your well can result in contamination of your drinking water. Many common well water contaminants do not change the color or taste of your water and cannot be detected without testing. SWNPHD recommends that private wells used for drinking should be tested once every year for bacteria, nitrates, and pH levels.

North Platte, Neb. -&nbsp; A 66-year-old woman has been arrested by police after buying minors tobacco, alcohol products according to officials.&nbsp;

According to the North Platte Police Department (NPPD), the police department received a tip from the Lincoln County Crime Stoppers that 66-year-old Nanette Timms was procuring alcohol and tobacco products for minors in the North Platte area.&nbsp;

In a press release from NPPD, Timms was using her phone to communicate with minors. Minors would pay her in online transactions and cash payments for alcohol and tobacco products. Timms would have juveniles pick up the products in person at various locations or would leave the items outside her residence.&nbsp;

On Friday, August 16th, investigators observed Timms obtain a large amount of alcohol at Walmart. Investigators witnessed her meet up with two parked vehicles in the parking lot, and Timms placed the alcohol and tobacco products into each of the two vehicles, according to officials.&nbsp;

Law enforcement contacted the two vehicles occupied by the minors and made contact with Timms. One vehicle was occupied by three juveniles and the other was occupied by one juvenile female. The alcohol, liquor, and tobacco products were then seized by law enforcement.&nbsp;

NPPD states Timms was placed into custody on four counts of Procuring Alcohol to Minors (Class I Misd.) and three counts of Selling or Giving Tobacco or a nicotine Product or Device to a Minor (Class III Misd.).&nbsp; More charges are pending upon completion of the investigation. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The North Platte Police Department would like to thank the anonymous caller who provided this information to Crime Stoppers.&nbsp;

(Audio) Avocado Launching National Championships coming back to North Platte in September

SIDNEY, Neb. -&nbsp;Registration is open for Western Nebraska Community College's next Construction Trades program, an Entry-Level Plumbing course in Sidney starting on October 1.

The Entry-Level Plumbing course is intended for students interested in entering the plumbing industry. The program is designed to help students get their foot-in-the door as a helper or with a goal of being an plumbing apprentice in a 20-week timeframe.

The course is scheduled to complete on February 15, 2025, with classes occurring Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6-9 p.m.), and Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Classes will take place at the WNCC Sidney Campus and at 832 11th Avenue in Sidney.

Tuition for the electrical course is $3,750. Financial aid is available through the Nebraska Career Scholarship and Community College Gap Funding for those who qualify.

Upon completion of the program, students will earn a National Center for Construction Education and Research certification.&nbsp;NCCER is a recognized leader in construction and maintenance curriculum.

WNCC Construction Trades offering Plumbing course in Sidney

(North Platte, Neb.)&nbsp;&nbsp;— A multi-agency effort led to the recovery of a missing juvenile and the arrest of two men on several charges in Thomas County.

Monday afternoon, NSP was notified that a stolen vehicle was believed to be traveling through Nebraska on Highway 83. The vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, had been stolen out of Colorado. Authorities in Colorado reported that a missing juvenile may be in danger traveling in the vehicle with two men.

Troopers, deputies from Thomas, Logan, and Lincoln Counties, as well as the Nebraska Brand Committee began searching for the vehicle. At approximately 3:10 p.m. Monday, the van was located on Highway 83, south of Thedford and a trooper performed a traffic stop. Deputies arrived on scene quickly to assist.

The trooper safely located a missing 13-year-old girl inside the van along with two men. The girl had been previously reported missing from South Dakota. Further investigation revealed that the men had also stolen a vehicle in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. That vehicle contained a rifle. The rifle was located by law enforcement on the side of Highway 83 and authorities believe it was thrown from the van as the trooper was approaching.

The two men were identified as Marquise Spotted Eagle, 20, and Datavion Taylor, 23, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They were placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, aiding and abetting, child endangerment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Both men were lodged in Lincoln County Jail.&nbsp;

NSP is also working with authorities in Colorado and South Dakota on this investigation.
